We are seeking a methodical, service-oriented, and detail-driven Library Assistant to support the daily operations of our library’s circulation and information services. In this role, you will be essential to maintaining the accessibility and organization of our collections, managing loan transactions, and providing helpful assistance to our patrons. If you possess a love for organizing information, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to maintain order in a busy, public-facing environment, this is an outstanding opportunity to support our library’s mission of fostering learning and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Circulation Services: Efficiently process the check-out and return of library materials, managing user accounts, and addressing inquiries regarding loan policies or overdue items.
Collection Maintenance: Shelve books, periodicals, and media according to the Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress classification systems to ensure materials are easily retrievable.
Patron Assistance: Serve as a friendly point of contact, helping patrons navigate the library, locate materials, and utilize digital databases or library resources.
Administrative Support: Manage library records, update inventory lists, and assist with clerical tasks such as photocopying, document printing, and processing inter-library loan requests.
Physical Organization: Regularly conduct shelf-reading to ensure correct organization, identify damaged items for repair or withdrawal, and maintain an orderly public space.
Technical Support: Assist patrons with the use of computers, printers, and scanners, providing basic troubleshooting and instruction on how to access e-books and online catalogs.
Event & Program Support: Assist in the setup and breakdown of community programs, workshops, or library displays to encourage patron engagement.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; relevant coursework in library science or information studies is highly preferred.
Experience: 1–3 years of experience in a library, customer service, or high-volume archival/clerical role.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Integrated Library Systems (ILS), digital catalogs, and basic database software.
Strong aptitude for alphanumeric filing systems and library classification standards.
Basic computer literacy and experience troubleshooting office equipment.
